Damien Power

Three-time Barry nominee Damien Power is widely regarded as the most exhilarating voice on the Australian comedy circuit. After just a handful of years playing festivals, he’s racked up a number of awards, nominations and rave reviews, as well as selling out rooms across the country.

Damien toured his raw, assured I Can’t Believe I Cared to audiences around Australia and the world in 2015. He took the 2016 festival scene by storm with Sell Mum Into Slavery, and was filmed as part of ABC-TV’s Next Gen series.

Damien is also a member of the “True Australian Patriots” – winners of the Director’s Choice award at the 2016 Melbourne International Comedy Festival. He stars in fellow True Australian Patriot performer Anne Edmonds’ new show for ABC iView, The Edge Of The Bush, had his own segment – “Power to the People” – on The Project and featured in the ABC series Fancy Boy.

The 2017 Melbourne Comedy Festival saw Damien nominated for the Barry award for Best Show for the third time in as many years, and win the Pinder Prize, a grant named in honour of legendary comedy impresario John Pinder.

DAMIEN POWER

COMEDIAN/WRITER/ACTOR

Two-time Barry Award nominee Damien is widely regarded as one of the rising stars of Australian comedy.

Damien’s material ranges from personal stories about his brother Will Power (a famous IndyCar driver) to impassioned and absurdist political and social commentary. Having worked for years around Australia, from pubs and festivals to large theatres, Damien has a wide range of material, winning over audiences with strong delivery, energy and confidence.

In 2012 Damien was selected by the Melbourne International Comedy Festival to perform in their exclusive showcase of Australia’s best emerging comedians, The Comedy Zone. Later in the year he was nominated for Best Comedy at the Sydney Fringe Festival for his solo show Monkeys in Space. The following year, Damien completed a sold-out run of the Melbourne International Comedy Festival and was nominated for the prestigious Best Newcomer Award. As a result of his work in Melbourne, he was hand-picked to support Jack Black’s group Tenacious D all around the country.

2014 saw Damien return to the festival circuit with a new live show, Keit, and gigging all over Australia. Highlights included supporting Doug Stanhope in Brisbane and Adelaide, performing a knockout set for Just For Laughs at the Sydney Opera House, and live-tweeting his brother Will's IndyCar Championship win to an international audience of motoring and comedy enthusiasts, gaining attention from international publications including USA Today, NBC and Fox Sports.

Damien toured his raw, assured and Barry-nominated hour of Power - I Can’t Believe I Cared - to audiences around Australia and the world in 2015.  Having gigged around South-East Asia, Edinburgh and to the invitation-only ComedyTrain International Summer Festival in Amsterdam, Damien stormed the 2016 festival scene with his latest offering: Sell Mum Into Slavery. This show saw him nominated for the Barry award for the second year running. The ABC then selected Damien and his show to be filmed as part of their Next Gen series, that will air on Australian screens in late 2016. Damien was invited back to perform a new set at Just For Laughs Sydney.

Damien is also a member of the “True Australian Patriots” - as seen on their incendiary Facebook page, on The Weekly with Charlie Pickering and most recently winning the Director’s Choice award at the 2016 Melbourne International Comedy Festival.

Damien will also feature in fellow True Australian Patriot performer Anne Edmonds’ new show for ABC iView, The Edge Of The Bush.  Anne and Damien are also the voices in the Australian version of cult US Adult Swim show Fish Centre. He has been seen on The Project Friday nights with his own segment – “Power to the People”, and will feature in the upcoming ABC show Fancy Boy.
