Stand Up Comedian

Edgy, polished and inventive, Charlie Pickering is possibly the most exciting new name in Australian comedy.

2006 was a massive year, with Charlie performing solo seasons at the Perth International Arts Festival, Adelaide Fringe Festival, Cracker Comedy Festival in Sydney, Melbourne International Comedy Festival, NZ International Comedy Festival and the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, as well as performing in his first Melbourne International Comedy Festival Gala and a stint at the Cape Town Comedy Festival in South Africa.

Yes, our Charlie sure does get around!

Charlie premiered his new show Auto at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival and topped off a sell out season with a prestigious Barry Award Nomination for Most Outstanding Show. Auto then travelled to Edinburgh to rave reviews and will also enjoy a season at the Soho Theatre in London.

2005 was also huge for Charlie as he picked up a Perrier Best Newcomer Nomination in Edinburgh and was named Best International Guest by the NZ Comedy Guild.

Charlie began to perform solo stand up in the pubs and clubs of Melbourne in 2000. He started the cult comedy room Stagetime with fellow comic Michael Chamberlin, each taking turns as compere. Since then he has built a reputation as a quality performer, a talented host and a natural storyteller.

But his talents don't end with live work. Charlie spent two years co-hosting Triple J's Drive Show and was a regular on ABC-TV's comedy show Stand Up! You may also have spotted him in 2004 most Friday morning's with Michael Chamberlin dissecting the news of the week on Nine's Today program. Most recently he has been a regular host on the Comedy Channel and also performed stand up on Rove [Live].

"Charming company and a natural raconteur " The Scotsman

"You won't be disappointed " The Independent UK
