Hannah Gadsby has beaten out a star-studded field to win the 2017 Helpmann Award for Best Comedy Performer for her acclaimed show Nanette.
Having recently won the Barry Award for Best Show at the 2017 Melbourne International Comedy Festival, one of the biggest prizes for live comedy in the world, Gadsby has picked up yet another accolade for her self-described swansong.
Announced tonight at a ceremony at the Capitol Theatre in Sydney, Nanette was judged the winner ahead of the other nominees, which included Tom Ballard’s show Problematic, Sammy J’s Hero Complex, Aunty Donna’s Big Boys, Joel Creasey’s Poser and Nazeem Hussain’s Public Frenemy.
Next up for Gadsby will be taking Nanette to the Edinburgh Festival Fringe next month, before a season at the Sydney Opera House in September and a string of encore performances at the Arts Centre Melbourne. You can view all tour details here.
